We’ve recently made the transition to a remote-first business, however we’ve retained a HQ in central Brighton which is available for collaborative working and in-person meet-ups.
About the role
As the first Data Scientist at TrustedHousesitters, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the company’s data strategy and analytics capabilities. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams including engineering, product, and CRM to uncover insights, develop predictive models and implement solutions that improve our users’ experiences. This is a unique opportunity to build a data science function from the ground up and make a tangible impact on our growth trajectory.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with engineering to establish scalable data pipelines and storage solutions
- Ensure data quality, integrity, and accessibility across the organisation
- Analyse large datasets to identify trends, patterns, and actionable insights
- Design and implement dashboards, reports, and visualisations for key stakeholders
- Build predictive and prescriptive models to support business functions such as customer segmentation and recommendation systems
- Deploy and monitor models in production environments, ensuring reliability and effectiveness
- Advocate for data-driven decision-making across the organisation
- Define and implement best practices for data science workflows and methodologies
- Mentor and guide future data science hires as the team grows
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in a data science role, B2C, ideally in a high-growth environment
- Proficiency in Python, R, or a similar programming language for data analysis and model building
- Having expertise in SQL and working with relational databases
- Experience with data visualisation tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, or Looker)
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and data intelligence platforms like Databricks
- Proven ability to frame business problems and translate them into data-driven solutions
- Strong statistical knowledge and experience with machine learning techniques
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to convey complex ideas to non-technical stakeholders
- Self-starter with a passion for building systems and solving problems
